Monarchy vs Republic debate

One of my old televised debates with a Canadian republican has somehow found its way on to YouTube. Should you wish to view the Monarchy vs Republic debate you may do so by clicking on the video below. This short debate took place during The Queen's Canadian homecoming and followed pro-republican comments made by then Liberal Cabinet Minister (and one time Prime Ministerial hopeful) John Manley.

Should the above video not work you may view the video at THIS LINK

I've just posted a link to the video myself. Quite an interesting argument.

Many Canadians I've spoken to DO relate to the Queen. They are very happy about their British ties. What I am wondering is if J.J. McCullough and others like him are more interested in simply having a Canadian-born or 'in residence' head of state, rather than the massive upheaval of changing government structure.

For example, say Prince Harry (or even Peter Phillips or the Earl of Ulster), is given a post in Canada like John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll. The Duke was Governor General of Canada for several years. He was married to Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Louise, bringing the British monarchy and aristocracy directly into everyday Canadian life.

A virtuoso performance, sir!

It would seem that calling for a republican government in Canada is tantamount to calling for a revolution. The term "upheaval" is right on the mark, given the fact that scrapping the monarchy would be scrapping the Canadian government, and you would have to start from scratch.

I do vehemently distrust revolutions!

Funny that I mentioned Peter Phillips above, who is now marrying Canadian Autumn Kelly. What if he ends up moving to Canada with his wife?

Dear Mandy,

I very much doubt that Peter Phillips would move to Canada however he would be welcomed warmly by Canadians were he to do so. Indeed, Canadian monarchists would be overjoyed to have one of HM's grandchildren as a Canadian resident.
